'THE GREAT' VALLEY MAKEOVER

'THE GREAT' VALLEY MAKEOVER
THE Great Gatsby has stamped the Valley via an Accor makeover.

The Accor Network has unveiled Brisbane's first prestige MGallery hotel, a Charleston-style development with modern touches.

Located at 73 Wickham Terrace, the New Inchcolm Hotel & Suites will be MGallery Collection's tenth address across Australia and New Zealand.

It features 50 rooms, including one and two-bedroom suites, and loft-style hotel suites.

The heritage-listed hotel is the product of an $8 million refurbishment and restoration program to transform it into a boutique-feel development certified by the Accommodation Association of Australia (AAA) as 5-star.

The Charleston Room and Foxtrot Room have been added as fresh conference and private meeting spaces, as well as two new dining options, Thomson's Reserve Restaurant and the Socialites Bar.

General manager Daniel Meek says historical architecture has fused with modern touches to result in a "quirky" development.

The hotel dates back to the 1880s which immigrant Dr John Thomson, founder of St John's Ambulance and QLD University, chose the site for his personal residence.

"The Inchcolm name, coming from Scotland's Inchcolm Island, has always remained the same, as has the historical architecture and charming 20s and 30s socialite vibe," says Meek.

"This era was the heyday of interior design. The current refurbishment has carefully protected the building's neo-Georgian style yet combined it with modern touches."
The current owner of the building, Brisbane developer Peter Flynn, purchased the property in 1997 feeling a connection due to being born there during its medical practice days.

His vision to create a New York style boutique hotel saw The Inchcolm Hotel open its doors in 1998, before closing for refurbishment and expansion in 2014.
