Airport executive soars with international award

FRANCES Cream has been named 2009 Asia-Pacific Young Executive of the Year by the Airports Council International (ACI) Asia-Pacific region.

Cream’s research paper, Economic Challenges Facing Airports in an Era of Global Instability, was deemed the best paper of the 13 candidates from the Asia Pacific region.

The Gold Coast Airport marketing manager says it’s an honour to be credited by the world industry body, given the calibre of other entrants.

“I completed my research paper quite a few months ago and I had it marked in my diary that judging was taking place in the last few weeks. It is a fantastic achievement and I am so happy to have been recognised in this way,” she says.

Gold Coast Airport’s chief operating officer Paul Donovan, says it’s testimony to the high skill level in the airport management team.

“We have a very strong staff culture within GCAL and we love to celebrate our collective achievements as often as possible. We are delighted that the ACI Asia-Pacific has recognised Frances and her efforts at Gold Coast Airport with this prestigious award,” says Donovan.

The award is another feather in the flying cap of Gold Coast Airport which also won both the 2008 and 2007 CAPA (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) Low Cost Airport of the Year Awards and late last year was awarded the OAG (Official Airline Guide) Routes Airport Marketing Award.

Cream has worked at Gold Coast Airport since 2007. She is responsible for the management and implementation of a range of brand, tactical and strategic marketing initiatives to ensure the sustainability of airline services.

Prior to commencing with GCAL, Cream worked at Tourism Australia as an international operations coordinator. She is currently completing a doctor of business administration with Southern Cross University.

Cream will give a presentation on her research paper to the ACI Asia-Pacific regional assembly in Kuala Lumpur in November.
