Melbourne 3D body scanner scale-up Bodd raises $15m amid contract growth with airlines, health firms

Bodd, a Melbourne-based company that claims its 3D body scanning technology captures more data on the human body in 60 seconds than any other single product globally, has just secured $15 million in an oversubscribed raise to establish a physical presence in the US.

The company's non-obtrusive technology - used for everything from accurate measurements for uniforms and clothing retailers through to insights on the body's vitals data for the pharmacy, fitness and wellness industries - has been embraced by a range of companies and sectors globally.

The funds will partly be used to fuel expansion in the US to accelerate customer acquisitions in aviation, after signing United Airlines, as well as defence and healthcare.

Bodd is also expanding across the United Kingdom and the Middle East with deployments in law enforcement, emergency services and aviation, while other major contacts include Brooks Brothers in North America and Portwest, a large workwear manufacturer based in Dublin.

Closer to home, Bodd services Australian Defence Apparel, the New Zealand Defence Force and uniform manufacturer Stewart & Heaton. The company is also investing heavily in its health-tech division with deployments across Australian pharmacies in 2026 to support growing demand for GLP-1 treatments associated with the weight loss drug Ozempic.

The latest round, led by US-based BlueSky Capital founded by former ANZ trader Steve Bellotti and with backing from Australian investment firm Ellerston Capital, exceeded Bodd's initial fundraising plans by $5 million.

The raise follows a $5 million round at the end of 2022 and takes total funds raised to $25 million, in addition to grant funding. The proceeds will also go towards lifting Bodd's current headcount from 25 to 40

"We’re very humbled by the depth of investor support behind this capital raise, welcoming new investors, and seeing continued backing from so many of our existing investor," says Bodd co-founder and chief executive Rob Fisher.

“It supports our thesis that the body data industry is ripe for innovation and it validates the hard work the Bodd team continues to invest in our products and customers.

"With AI rapidly reshaping how organisations make decisions, the need for high quality data has only become increasingly important. Bodd’s high-fidelity data bridges this gap and enables AI models to be trained and applied with far greater precision for real-world use case."

in 2016, describes the next stage of global scale is "truly exciting" for Bodd.

"We’re accelerating our growth in defence, aviation and healthcare, three sectors with sustained global demand. We have new features, new customers and new talent ahead of us," he adds.

BlueSky Capital is focused on AI and data centre investing, and is a significant shareholder in N-Scale - a fast-growing UK-based unicorn in the AI infrastructure space.

"Across the AI landscape, there is enormous investment in infrastructure, model training and the development of an efficient energy economy. The long-term value of these initiatives will be judged largely by the resulting uplift in economic productivity," says BlueSky's founder Steve Bellotti, a former ANZ trader who also previously held senior roles at Merrill Lynch.

"Bodd operates in a strategically important position slightly downstream from the infrastructure N-Scale builds. Bodd’s high-fidelity body scans have enormous propensity to drive global efficiencies at both a precise and population level.

"We see strong alignment with where the industry is heading and the data that Bodd can produce; the possibilities for use of Bodd’s data is almost infinite and we’re pleased to back a team solving global problems using smart body data."

Bodd's technology is the result of five years of research from the company's engineering team together with Swinburne University of Technology and RMIT.
