Beloved Australian music festival Falls Festival is officially on hiatus and will not return for the 2023/24 New Year's season.

Announced this morning, the Secret Sounds-operated music festival has confirmed that after 28 years Falls Festival will not return over the upcoming New Year's period.

“After an impressive 28 years ringing in the New Year with some of the world’s biggest acts, the Falls team are today switching on their OOOs and taking this New Year's season off to rest, recover and recalibrate,” Falls Festival said in a statement posted to social media.

“We send huge love and appreciation to all our patrons for their ongoing support and for the great vibes they brought to the 2022/23 events.

“You really are the heart and soul of Falls Festival, and we look forward to updating you with our plans when the time is right.”

The news comes after Falls held its Victorian 2022 edition at Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl after being prevented from hosting the festivities at a proposed site in Murroon - not far from its original location in the coastal town of Lorne.

The 2022 edition of Falls, which is also held in North Byron and Fremantle, WA, boasted a stacked lineup of international artists including Brit rockers Arctic Monkeys, breakout hip-hop star Lil Nas X, DJ and producer Peggy Gou, and Australian outfits like Spacey Jane, G Flip, Amyl and the Sniffers, and Genesis Owusu.
