The founder of one of Australia's largest fitness franchises Fernwood is stepping away from her CEO role after 36 years of leadership, with Diana Williams announcing she will become chair of the board at the company that has grown from a single club in Bendigo to now comprising 73 locations nationwide.
The CEO position will be filled by Belinda Amis Wheaton, who has been with the group for more than four years and was recently its general manager.
In a LinkedIn post, Wheaton lauded Williams' for building Fernwood as "more than just a fitness brand".
"It has become a movement that has empowered women across Australia to embrace strength, confidence, and community," Amis Wheaton said.
"Di's vision and dedication has created something extraordinary, and I am incredibly grateful for her trust as I take on this responsibility.
"I am committed to ensuring Fernwood not only retains its leadership but continues to innovate and redefine the future of women’s fitness for decades to come."
Williams said the past 36 years have been "nothing short of extraordinary", describing an incredible journey of challenges, triumphs, and transformation.
"The decision to step back from daily operations wasn’t made lightly, but I do so with complete confidence in Belinda’s leadership," the founder said.
"She is an inspiring, driven, and highly capable leader who will take Fernwood into its next exciting phase. I look forward to championing our continued growth as chair of the board and seeing this brand reach even greater heights."
In assuming leadership of the group, Amis Wheaton has also recognised the critical role of franchise partners and committed to strengthening their success and expanding the brand's reach.
"Our franchise partners are the backbone of Fernwood - the dedicated and passionate business owners who bring our brand to life in their communities every day," she said.
"My commitment is to provide them with the best tools, support, and opportunities to thrive as we shape the future of women’s fitness together."
