Perth Airport has announced today it will be developing its first on-site hotel in partnership with global property group CBRE, giving travellers a new choice of accommodation that will feature 250 rooms across eight floors.
The move will see all major Australian capital cities finally have hotels situated close to their airports, and help strengthen Perth Airport’s $1.2 billion property portfolio.
Current projects in the pipeline at Perth Airport include the construction of a third runway, a new international pier, multi-storey car parks and a commercial office space, as well as the consolidation of all commercial air services into one precinct - Airport Central.
The proposed hotel will be located next to Metronet’s Airport Central Station, which is only a 12-minute train ride to the CBD.
Perth Airport chief property officer Dan Sweet said a hotel located in the Airport Central precinct has been part of the group’s master planning for many years.
"Perth Airport needs to grow with WA's aviation and tourism sectors and a hotel on Airport is a big part of this,” Sweet said.
"The new hotel will be a world-class facility with safe and convenient vehicle access and will offer a mix of around 250 rooms and suites.”
"Consolidation will make it easier for all passengers to seamlessly connect between regional, domestic and international destinations.”
With around 14 million passengers travelling through the airport annually, Perth Airport anticipates the number will double to 29 million passengers by 2034.
CBRE Head of Capital Markets WA Aaron Desange said the group is seeking to appoint a wellestablished and regarded hotel operator with demonstrated experience in leading airport accommodation assets.
Based in the US, CBRE has previously helped sell off assetssuch as Craigieburn Central for $300 million to IP Generation, an $105 million industrial property in Yarraville and Dexus’ (ASX: DSX) $85 million purchase of Beenleigh Marketplacein December last year.
"We are confident in delivering a successful outcome for Perth Airport and feel that this will be a highly sought-after opportunity," Desange added.
The airport hotel has been designed by Melbourne-based firm DKO Architecture.
"We're thrilled to be appointed as the architect for the Perth Airport Central Hotel project,” DKO Perth Studio director Dennis Chew said.
“Our design will reflect Western Australia's unique beauty with materials and forms inspired by its landscapes, providing a memorable and warm welcome to visitors from all over the world.”
