Perth-based Revo Fitness has strengthened its national presence by acquiring eight Crunch Fitness Australia locations in Victoria, advancing its target of operating 100 gyms across the country by 2027.

Founded in 2012 by former Western Australia Sheffield Shield cricketer Andrew Holder, Revo Fitness offers access to pin and plate-loaded machines, cardio equipment, free weights, functional training areas for high-intensity interval training (HIIT) circuits, and Pilates workouts.

The company was founded to offer gym-goers a simpler experience in starting their health journeys by avoiding complex sign-up contracts and allowing them to visit large open-plan gyms that are open 24/7 and filled with quality equipment.

In a LinkedIn post announcing the news, Holder said that Revo Fitness is on track to operate 85-plus gyms nationwide by the end of 2026.

“This is a huge moment for us as a brand to expand our footprint and give more options for our members across Victoria,” Holder said in LinkedIn post.

“We have worked around the clock to make this concept a reality and cannot thank Selena Afeaki (Crunch Fitness Australia CEO) and the Crunch team in giving us the chance to care for the community they have built. Our responsibility is to build on this legacy and footprint across Australia.

“Over the next couple of months, you will see these clubs become upgraded, refurbished and transitioned to Revo Fitness locations, including some brand new locations in Victoria already in our pipeline.”

A US franchise founded in 1989 by Doug Levine, Crunch Fitness initially began as one small gym in a basement studio in New York City’s Greenwich Village. Today, it has more than 450 franchised and corporate-owned fitness clubs across the US.

Revo Fitness will be acquiring the gyms from Crunch Fitness Australia, which is owned by husband-and-wife team Selena and Lusiano Afeaki, who previously owned gym chains V Club and Hard Candy before being rebranded.

The acquisition will see Revo Fitness open locations in Ballarat, Hoppers Crossing, Epping, Highpoint, Footscray, Richmond, Mentone, Chadstone, Nunawading, Springvale and Bayswater North.

The news comes almost a year after Revo Fitness announced it would open 11 new gyms across South Australia, Western Australia and Victoria before the end of 2024.

Last year saw members undertake more than 10 million workouts across Revo’s clubs nationally in 2024, reflecting a 65 per cent year-on-year increase.
