More than $29 million will be injected into regional Queensland as Australian Survivor sets up production for the second time in the state, creating work for 250 local businesses in Charters Towers.
Receiving $3.9 million in funding from the Federal Government’s Location Incentive grant, Sydney-based production company Endemol Shine Australia has opted to film in the outback again after creating the show’s previous season in Cloncurry.
To date, more than $250 million has been handed out under the grant in order to attract 26 international productions in Australia.
Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, Paul Fletcher, said production would provide work for 250 Australian crew in regional Queensland to develop skills to grow and enhance the nation’s screen industry.
“Australia’s amazing landscapes are once again being showcased to the world on Australian Survivor, stimulating tourism in Charters Towers and creating work for around 250 local businesses,” Minister Fletcher said.
The Location Incentive has generated more than $1.9 billion of expenditure into the economy, 17,100 employment opportunities for local cast and crew, and created work for 15,800 businesses that support large-scale productions.
The merit-assessed grant offers up to 13.5 per cent of a project’s Qualifying Australian Production Expenditure, with the total available sitting at $540 million.
Endemol Shine Australia CEO Peter Newman said the company is delighted to return to Queensland.
“Cloncurry provided the game with a visually stunning location, and we know that Charters Towers will provide an equally rich Australian backdrop for the Survivors to battle it out,” said Newman.
“We look forward to working closely with the local community and crew and supporting the Charters Towers economy throughout a successful production period.”
Australian Survivor is set to be featured across Network Ten’s platforms, including 10 Play, later this year.
