ADELAIDE PLEDGES TO COME CLEAN

ADELAIDE PLEDGES TO COME CLEAN

AFTER the near-shutdown of its manufacturing industry, Adelaide is aiming to become the world's first carbon neutral city.

The South Australian Government is pledging $3.6 million to make this a reality.

Currently 60 per cent of Adelaide's carbon emissions come from energy usage and 35 per cent from transport.

The Government intends to improve energy efficiency, green the city's electricity grid, provide better public transport and promote cycling.

AllGrid Energy was the first recipient of the Government's Sustainable Cities Incentive Scheme, which gave up to a $5,000 rebate to Adelaide City Council residents for the purchase of solar.

Specific initiatives of the scheme include seed funding for community activity to build green infrastructure, reduce and recover community waste and promote shared transport.

A Government partnership with Adelaide City Council will secure private investment in renewable energy and storage, as well as build energy efficiency and electric vehicles infrastructure.
