AIR PASSENGER NUMBERS SOAR ON IMPROVED MARKETING AND CAPACITY

INCREASED carrier capacity and marketing efforts have helped Queensland Airports Limited (QAL) take its passenger numbers to new heights.

In comparison to October 2011, Gold Coast domestic passenger numbers for October this year grew 14.7 per cent while international passenger numbers jumped 19 per cent.

Townsville’s air commuters rose 6.1 per cent and Mount Isa’s increased 17.7 per cent.

QAL managing director Dennis Chant credits increased airline capacity and destination marketing for the strong increase in passenger movements.

“Mount Isa experienced its best month ever, Gold Coast its second best and Townsville its third best,” says Chant.

“The continued strong international growth is good news for the [state’s] tourism industry. It also reflects well on focused cooperative marketing initiatives over the last six months.”
