Ecospecifier building on a green base

SUSTAINABLE building solutions company Ecospecifier is expanding its global reach with new contracts and operations expected in Singapore and South Africa this month.
Global director Mary-Lou Kelly says the expansion comes in addition to a $1.2 million contract last year for the Brisbane-based company to work on a green building code for Abu Dhabi.
Ecospecifier matches environmentally responsible building projects with like-minded construction product manufacturers and suppliers through an online database, and also provides consulting and education services.
Last month Ecospecifier started its first stage of its Singapore project with an educational seminar on green building practices.
Kelly says the company will negotiate with the Singapore Government this month and hopefully win endorsement to provide green certification assessment for building materials to our South East Asian neighbour.
“This would certainly make the process easier for manufacturers in Australia, giving them direct export opportunities, as well as exposure in Singapore through our website,” she says.
Kelly flags March 17 as a launch date for Ecospecifier South Africa, where they will provide product verification to support the South African Green Star Voluntary Commercial Building Rating Scheme.
Ecospecifier receives revenue from subscriptions to data, as well as through its consulting services, which gives the company adaptability in tough economic times.
“In this credit crunch time we need to diversify the business, and so if the retail suffers, our consulting arm can sustain the Ecospecifier system,” she says.
Minister for Trade John Mickel says Ecospecifier, with databases containing more than 5000 green building products, has made a significant move with its entry into the Singapore market.
“Singapore is increasingly becoming recognised as South East Asia’s leader in sustainable building practices,” says Mickel.
“The company’s launch in Singapore will have flow-on benefits for Queensland, improving international access to more than 100 Queensland-based manufacturers hosted on their database, in the growing green building sector.”
