THE soon to be disbanded Allconnex Water has appointed former Ansett executive Mark Williamson (pictured) as its new chairman.
Williamson brings more than 25 years experience in non-executive director positions on a range of boards, including public sector utilities. He has held senior roles in sales, marketing and general management across sectors including energy, IT, airlines and telcos.
Previous positions include director of sales, Northern Region for Optus; general manager of national sales for Ansett Australia; GM Queensland for Ansett Australia; and executive vice president of sales and marketing for Mincom.
Williamson sits on the board of CS Energy, where he is also chair of its People and Safety Committee. He is also a board member of government-owned organisation Transmax Pty Ltd.
He will work with the three councils of Gold Coast, Logan and Redland to ensure a smooth transition of the asset in the lead-up to the takeover on June 30, 2012. The majority of councillors agreed to disband the water retailer at an estimated cost of around $100 million.
“My focus will be on two main areas - the efficient transfer of services, people and assets back to councils, while at the same time delivering high levels of customer service,” he says.
The appointment follows that of CEO Andrew Foley to the organisation.
Former chair John Dempsey resigned from the Allconnex Board in September, while CEO Kim Wood stepped down in November following a tumultuous year at the helm.
