GAMING CLUB FOR THE VALLEY

A WORLD first console gaming nightclub will open in Fortitude Valley this month, in close proximity to the country’s major video game development companies.

The four businessmen involved with Mana Bar made a tender for the 69sqm site at the Judith Wright Centre in December 2008, undergoing applications to prove gaming is an art form. Guy Blomberg, Pras Moorthy, Shay Leighton and Ben Croshaw used their own capital for the project, which involves a three-year lease with the centre and negotiations with developers to use their games.

Blomberg says there has been rapid growth in social gaming with young people often gathering at home to play Wii or Guitar Hero – a trend he hopes will mean success for Mana Bar.

“All the money will be made behind the bar selling drinks and we would like to have a retail component as well,” says Blomberg.
