GOLD COASTERS SAY 'BULA' FROM FIJI

MORE than 50,000 seats per year have been added into and out of the Gold Coast Airport, following the latest offering of Jetstar's service between Gold Coast and Nadi, Fiji.

The service, which commenced this week in time for the Easter holiday period, is expected to prove popular from an outbound perspective.

Gold Coast Airport chief operating officer David Collins says Fiji is a great international travel destination, and is expecting couples and families to take advantage of this offer.

"This service will provide a great boost for our outbound market, demonstrating that the Gold Coast continues to be an attractive prospect for airlines in both an inbound and an outbound sense," says Collins.

"Jetstar has shown a great deal of commitment to the Gold Coast and today's celebration comes in quick succession from the airline commencing services to both Wellington and Queenstown in December and the re-instated Perth service commencement on Sunday.

"We look forward to working with Jetstar and Nadi International Airport to ensure the longterm success of these services."

The Gold Coast to Nadi service operates three times per week, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, operated by an Airbus A320 aircraft.

Passengers checking in for the first flight (a departure service) were met by Fijian warriors and singers (pictured) and provided with gift bags from Jetstar and Tourism Fiji.

It's been a great start to the year for Gold Coast Airport, recently winning the Skytrax World Airport Award for Best Regional Airport Australia/Pacific.
