INDONESIAN AUTO PARTS GROUP WINS $1M TOURISM CHALLENGE

TWENTY businesses have spent a week competing in Tourism Queensland’s (TQ) Million Dollar Memo challenge, but it was an auto parts supplier from Indonesia that will benefit after walking away with $1 million in travel incentives.

This afternoon at Port Douglas’ Sea Temple Resort, ADR Group of Companies received the top prize and will spend it on Queensland travel, accommodation and entertainment for employees.

ADR vice-president Rusman Salem was honoured to receive the prize.

“We are a company built from ordinary people that has a very fun place to work, great teamwork and a lot of creativity. But on top of that we are also a very patient and hope to achieve extraordinary results. I want to thank all the finalists for a very nice friendship,” says Salem.

State Tourism Minister Jan Jarratt says ADR’s performance proved it was worthy of receiving the ‘ultimate reward’.

“In all areas this company has been represented at an outstanding level,” says Jarratt.

TQ CEO Anthony Hayes says contestants had a ‘terrible time’ in testing their limits of physical endurance.

“It’s been one nightmare experience one after another. From the helicopters to the Great Barrier Reef, it has been very tough experiencing everything Queensland has to offer and its destinations,” says Hayes.

Finalists visited the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Whitsundays and North Queensland before finishing at Port Douglas.

Other competitors included Lend Lease (Australia), Yahoo! (Taiwan), Veto Insurance (New Zealand), Samsung Card (Korea), Reading Room (UK) and Boomerang Reisen Gmb (Germany).
