JAZZ RADIO HAS GOT THE BLUES

RADIO station Jazz 94.1 may soon be silenced if the board cannot secure around $150,000 in funding this year.

One of the region’s most popular community stations devoted to jazz, blues and Latin, it broadcasts to South East Queensland from studios in Marina Village, Surfers Paradise and the transmitter on Tamborine Mountain.

Jazz Radio chairman Ian Paxton, is positive that the station can secure Federal Government funding to stay afloat, but is seeking corporate sponsorship to enable smooth running of its operations and 20 volunteer staff.

“We are hopeful that we can pull through,” says Paxton.
“Last year was particularly hard because of the state of the nation and we had to leave our home at Sanctuary Cove due to escalating rents.”

Paxton says the Federal Government has cut back funding to community organisations in the last 12 months, but is hopeful of receiving a $28,000 transmission grant in March.
