Gold Coast developer Mayd Group has laid plans for its largest project to date - a $350 million mixed-use project that will introduce a new five-star luxury hotel to the beachfront at Kirra near the NSW border.
The development will comprise two 10-storey towers with one delivering 60 residential apartments and the other a 160-key hotel, with the scale of the hotel rivalling plans by KTQ Group for its $380 million redevelopment of the former Kirra Beach Hotel site.
Mayd Group, founded and led by Todd Mould, has lodged a development application for the project which is earmarked for an amalgamated 4,742sqm site overlooking North Kirra Beach.
The site, bounded by Pacific Parade, Golden Four Drive and Musgrave Street, has provided Mayd Group with the scope to create a masterplan that it says will transform the beachfront with the creation of the area’s ‘first true five-star hotel building’.
“We were fortunate to have been able to acquire eight adjoining sites to create one large beachfront site for our signature masterplan at North Kirra,” Mould says.
“The opportunity to develop such a large beachfront site in North Kirra is a rare one that required a development design of architectural excellence and we are very pleased with the plans that we have created in collaboration with award-winning MAS Studio.
“We have been working with Gold Coast City Council on lodging the development application to deliver a landmark building of high distinction for such a prominent site, keeping the local environment and community front of mind.”
The 10-level residential tower will include two penthouses and five double-storey beach houses along the beachfront, offering unobstructed views of North Kirra Beach.
The apartments, located at 2-6 Pacific Parade, will comprise two, three and four-bedroom residences, many with multipurpose rooms and access to resort-style amenities including a private pool area with sunken lounge and wet edge, a relaxation zone with sauna, shower and spa, yoga lawn, bar and barbecue as well as a lounge and cinema, all exclusive to the building’s residents.
The residential tower is targeting owner-occupiers who will also have access to the hotel’s five-star facilities including a port cochere, valet, room and laundry services as well as the hotel pool, lounges and restaurant.
The Mayd Group proposal is among a number of major developments planned for Kirra that have highlighted the once sleepy southern Gold Coast suburb’s rise as a development hotspot.
KTQ Group is proceeding with the next stage of its Kirra Point Precinct on the former Kirra Hotel site in the largest project ever proposed for the beachfront suburb.
The first stage of the development, which has been modified from four towers to three towers following community backlash, is scheduled to open in November. The next stage will include an apartment-hotel tower that will deliver a 92-key hotel to the precinct.
Mayd Group’s proposal will position its proposed development as the dominant hotel offering for the suburb which benefits from its close proximity to the Gold Coast Airport.
“Given the site is just 1km from the Gold Coast Airport that is being expanded for extra capacity to attract new carriers and new international and domestic flight connections, we recognised the need for a five-star hotel, as well as private apartment residences, to meet demand from global travellers and people who work remotely,” Mould says.
Mayd Group has not identified a hotel operator for the property, but says it is currently negotiating with a ‘global five-star hotel operator' to deliver the beachfront resort.
MAS Studio director and lead architect for the project, Nick Symonds, says the prominence of the site for the Mayd Group development necessitated a design that he says will provide a ‘statement entrance to Kirra’.
“The design is strongly influenced by local context, reflecting the unique beauty of North Kirra Beach and relaxed beachside lifestyle, elevating it with luxury dwellings for those who share the passion of this unique lifestyle and location,” Symonds says.
“Abundant greenery on the podium will cool the street where a row of beach houses, complete with their own private green courtyards, will provide a residential scaled address to the street.”
Mayd Group’s existing portfolio of works has largely comprised smaller-scale boutique residential developments on the Gold Coast, including Venice & Ocean at Mermaid Beach.
The company also has undertaken a number of commercial projects such as Brewery Lane at Miami and Burleigh Workstores at Burleigh Heads.
