MULTI SPAN KEEPS IT IN THE FAMILY

FROM surviving recession to riding economic boom, Brisbane-based firm Multi Span has chalked 50 years in the construction industry this month.

Established as a family-run steel fabrication shop in Salisbury in 1965, Multi Span has transformed into an integrated service model handling all kinds of building and civil design needs.

The firm has attracted clients including ARB, Australia Post, Brisbane Airport Corporation, CSR Limited, G James Holdings and Gold Coast City Marina.

Multi Span managing director Darryl Hood says the anniversary is a testament to the company's long-term diversification strategy.

"Surviving 50 years in the construction game is no mean feat there have been peaks, troughs, doldrums, surges, recessions and boom times, and Multi Span Australia Group's proudest achievement is that many of our clients and staff have been with us throughout the ages," Hood says.

"I attribute our longevity to family tradition and our unique structure whereby clients are able to access every facet of design and construction under the one roof.

"These days, our core business is largely focused on commercial, industrial and government projects throughout Queensland and northern NSW of up to $20 million in value."

Hood says the company has a succession plan in place, which stays true to the family tradition of the business.

"We definitely like to keep things in the family and the next generation of Multi Span Australia Group talents most of whom are in their 30s or early 40s and are ready to take the reins," Hood says.

"My son Martin will soon take over as managing director, architect David Hood will lead our design office while our company secretary Keith Morgan's son Zac Morgan taking on a bigger project management role.

"As a family business, Multi Span Australia Group emphasises collaboration, personal service and rewarding working relationships."

He says the company has mastered its procurement of construction projects across architectural and engineering design through to constrution and project management.
