SOUL SURFERS PARADISE WINS MASTER BUILDERS AWARDS

SOUL Residential Apartments took two gongs at the Master Builders Gold Coast 2013 Housing and Construction Awards announced during August.

The Surfers Paradise structure was awarded in the prestigious Project of the Year and also Residential Building (high-rise over $20 million) categories.

Soul was the first Queensland project for development, construction and investment management company Grocon.

Contract manager Kingsley Schultz says when the contract to build the 77-storey tower was signed in 2007, it was the largest private construction deal awarded in Australia for a single tower development.

“Grocon is proud to state the overall finished product has achieved an exceptionally high standard of finish for such a complex and challenging project,” says Schultz.

The $850 million beachfront titan features 286 apartments, including 16 sub-penthouses and a four-level penthouse, plus a 40-outlet retail complex.

At 249.5 metres it is the second tallest building on the Coast.

The local building industry’s night of nights also awarded V-Build Construction Services with House of the Year for a five-pavilion home at Kingsholme.

Renowned architect Chris Van Dyke designed the residence while his son, V-Build Construction Services director Keith Van Dyke, called on his 23 years’ building experience to create it.

Other 2013 winners included Astute Projects which won Civil Contractor of the Year, and Brayshaw Constructions which picked up three awards including the prestigious Ron McMaster Memorial Award for Excellence in Craftsmanship.
