SUNCORP TACKLES MARCIA CLAIMS

SUNCORP Group Limited (ASX:SUN) has mobilised its customer response teams to process a spate of claims in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Marcia.

The insurer received 4,300 claims but says it's too early to provide an accurate estimate of costs.

Suncorp CEO Patrick Snowball (pictured) says the company is primed to manage disaster events and is working with the authorities to reach major affected areas.

"The wellbeing of our customers remains our number one priority and we are making sure the necessary resources are in place across our bank and insurance brands," Snowball says.

"A further 200 call centre staff and 13 interstate assessors are ensuring limited call wait times and expedited assessments."

The customer response teams include representation from brands including AAMI, Apia, GIO and Vero.

"Our customer response team units are now active in key areas of Yeppoon and Rockhampton providing additional opportunities for customers to lodge their claims and talk face-to-face with claims staff," he says.

"These are experienced teams who were there for our customers following the 2011 Brisbane Floods, Cyclone Yasi and most recently following the December 2014 Brisbane hail storms."

The company's reinsurance program and Queensland home portfolio will limit the financial impact of Tropical Cyclone Marcia to a maximum of $200 million before tax.

Snowball says impacted Suncorp Bank customers may also be eligible for financial relief assistance.
