SUPER CLINIC FOR STRATHPINE

A $2.5 million GP super clinic has opened two months ahead of schedule in Strathpine, with expectations to employ five doctors by the end of this month.

Minister for Health and Ageing Nicola Roxon, says the clinic’s multidisciplinary health professionals will offer integrated, patient-centred care, as well as training for medical students.

“Today’s opening of the Strathpine GP Super Clinic sees additional GPs working longer hours in the Strathpine community, with most services bulkbilled,” says Roxon.

“Health professionals will work together to provide continuity of care under the one roof, allowing residents to attend one facility to access a variety of health services.”

But Australian Medical Association (AMA) has criticised the Federal Government’s move, claiming the money would be better spent by supporting established GPs.

AMA Queensland president Dr Mason Stevenson says the majority of super clinics are built in areas with already sufficient medical services available.

“What we really need is additional funding and support for hardworking GPs who have been providing health care to their local community for many years.”
