SUPERLOOP BREAKS NEW GROUND TO LAUNCH LATEST FIBRE NETWORK

SUPERLOOP'S already vast fibre cable network just got bigger through the addition of TKO Express, the only fibre cable of its kind connecting two major hubs in Hong Kong.

The new TKO Express installed by Superloop is currently the world's highest core count subsea cable and is the only domestic submarine cable connecting the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate and Chai Wan in Hong Kong.

It provides the shortest and most direct link between the two areas, which are home to some of the most significant data centres in Hong Kong.

Bevan Slattery (pictured), CEO and executive chairman of Superloop, says the network is approximately 20km shorter than other alternate network routes and is a critical part of the company's dark fibre network in the region.

"This opened new opportunities for businesses requiring high-speed connectivity or a geographically diverse link between the two precincts," says Slattery.

"Companies in the financial, telecommunications and media sectors, in particular, require high-performance, highly reliable connectivity for day-to-day business activities."

Slattery says TKO Express is by far the most direct route linking the HKEX Hosting Services Datacenter with Hong Kong Island.

"That's important for financial institutions who rely on low-latency connectivity to the HKEX Hosting Services Datacenter for transactions that can be won or lost in milliseconds," he adds.

Susana Halliday is the Hong Kong country manager of Superloop who led the TKO Express project.

Halliday says it was a challenging yet rewarding project which has quickly become invaluable to the region.

"It's been an incredible experience being part of the team who planned and commissioned this network," says Halliday.

"The full extent of how essential the TKO Express cable system is for improving network reliability in this area has become increasingly apparent since going live.

"Most of our customers rely on our network to ensure the success of their business, they have exceptionally high standards, and the positive feedback we have received on our network in Hong Kong has been extraordinary."

The first phase of Superloop's Hong Kong core network went live last year, and now on the completion of TKO Express it comprises 1,000 core cables making it the company's largest core fibre count deployment to date in the Asia Pacific region.
