RESULTS Legal has made a name for itself as an innovator in the commercial litigation space over the past decade, with founder and managing director Karl Hill (pictured) crediting it to an unconventional approach.
"We've always tried to be slightly different from the competition," says Hill, as he reflected on the firm's looming milestone anniversary next year.
"Our whole emphasis is on understanding our clients' needs and running those matters in a particular way that most neatly aligns with their objectives.
"Often our corporate clients have very specific needs in terms of reporting and internal requirements, so we want to put processes in place that will allow them to get everything they need from us in a simple way."
Results Legal, a Brisbane-based insolvency and legal recovery expert, has averaged at a 17 per cent rate for year on year growth since opening its doors in 2007.
In the year ahead Hill plans to drive Results further into financial services, an area that has been a primary firm focus for just over a year.
While emphasis has always been on nailing down a tight commercial litigation offering at Results, Hill also plans to grow other practice areas within related spaces over the coming months.
"We'll continue to focus on our niche of commercial litigation with emphasis on credit litigation, but we do see that we'll expand into other markets within that segment," says Hill.
"Traditionally our main focus has been about trade credit, and we've moved into financial services over the last 18 months which we're really starting to get some momentum in now.
"As we grow different areas of the business to where we want it to be down the track, we'll move into another segment within that broader credit litigation area."
Results has always focused more on specialisation rather than taken an all-inclusive approach. Hill believes there can be pitfalls with the complete-service legal model.
"I think there are challenges to the full-service model; I don't want to be critical of it but at the same time it's something that Results has consciously avoided," he says.
"We see that the better opportunity for us is to know our segment and deliver high quality work within it."
Hill says the biggest challenge going forward will be finding the right people to bring into the fold.
"We are very selective in the people that we bring into our business, because our reputation is too important to us to let it slip in any way.
"We've put more energy to developing staff right through from the junior level so we can grow our people in a way that meets our values and service offering."
Before the end of the next financial year the firm plans to establish a new headquarters, with a goal to double its current 25 staff count in the next six to eight years.
