FRESH DIRECTION FOR 23RD BOAT SHOW

FRESH DIRECTION FOR 23RD BOAT SHOW

THE 23rd annual Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show (SCIBS) is about to drop anchor on the Gold Coast and despite a soaring Aussie Dollar and a slowdown in the marine industry, early indications are positive.

Sue Thomson has only been in the job five months as preparations hit full throttle for the boat show from May 19-22. As she sets sail on a maiden boat show voyage, where more than 70 world and Australian marine product launches are confirmed, the former CEO at Gold Coast Tourism hesitates when asked to predict sales figures.

However research by Griffith University found the SCIBS generated a direct economic impact of more than $310 million to the Gold Coast region. While the heated Aussie dollar is expected to be a drag on international exhibitors during the four-day extravaganza this time around, Thomson is calm under pressure.
