International Women's Day leadership award 2009

HIGH profile Gold Coast women from a range of business and community sectors have been nominated for the annual International Women’s Day Leadership Award.
Founder of the Gold Coast Festival, Josephine Tobias says: “The response is overwhelming with a fantastic number of nominations received for a range of business and community awards,
“This is a very important year as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the awards.”
To celebrate there are three new categories: the Pacific Fair Retail Award, Fitness First Health and Fitness Award and the Lucy Cole Prestige Properties Award.
These awards are presented each year to women in the community who have shown outstanding leadership qualities and made significant contributions to the community or their business sector.
The 2009 IWD Leadership Award recipient will win a weekend for two at Gwinganna lifestyle retreat – just the place for women to rejuvenate and focus on her continued success.
Tobias says it is excellent that the award continues to grow and draw nominations from high profile women. In the past nine years more than 400 women have been nominated.
“We are so pleased that the Award continues to attract very successful women who are leading the way in business and in the community,” says Tobias.
“Local prominent women are seeing the event as an excellent opportunity to celebrate their success and mentor young women leaders of tomorrow.”
Youth continues to be in the forefront of this year’s festival, with 20 youth leaders nominated in the Griffith University Youth Leadership Award category.
Dr Robyn Redknap, general manager of Whitegrass Resort, Tanna Island, Vanuatu and recipient of the Leadership Award 2005 will return to the coast to attend this year’s event.
“The IWD Leadership Award has always meant so much to me and I will always be grateful for the genuine companionship, encouragement and support and amazing people I have meet as a result of the experience,” says Redknap.
Vicki Varthas chair of the judging panel says the award progress is very rewarding and annual nominees are inspired by the opportunity to meet other likeminded women and built new networks of contacts and mentors.
The award presentation dinner will be held at the Gold Coast Arts Centre March 4. More info at: www.womenatworkinternational.com.
