The College of Law has announced leading corporate and commercial lawyer Judy Choate has been appointed to its Board of Governors.
Choate has 27 years of experience in private practice and is recognised as a specialist in Australian tax and revenue law.
She was a senior partner in the corporate division of Piper Alderman Lawyers
The established lawyer has also been the Law Council of Australia's representative on the Australian Taxation Office's National Tax Liaison Group and its GST sub-committee.
Choate most recently was a director of KPMG, practicing with KPMG Law in South Australia.
Mr Neville Carter, Chairman and Group CEO of the College of Law welcomes the appointment, highlighting Judy's commercial and corporate knowledge as a strength she will bring to the Board of Governors.
"Judy is the current chair of the College of Law South Australia Chapter Board and has been actively involved in legal education for more than a decade, mentoring both junior practitioners and post graduate law students," he says.
Judy says her new role is an opportunity to continue her work in the legal education sector.
"The College of Law is focussed on preparing lawyers for a profession that is rapidly evolving.
"Any lawyer aspiring to work in a commercial environment needs to appreciate the commercial realities that drive decisions, as well as the relevant law," she says.
"I am excited to be part of the College of Law's efforts to teach the legal and business skills needed to succeed as a corporate and commercial lawyer."
