STAGE ONE COMPLETE AT ISLE OF CAPRI

STAGE one of the Harvey family’s $50 million development upgrade of the Capri on Via Roma retail and commercial precinct is now finished.

The first stage of completed works includes a major upgrade to the existing three-level building facing Via Roma and the connecting car park, including a new foyer to office levels and new landscaped surrounding.

Capri on Via Roma will have 31 retail businesses including restaurants, cafes and a comprehensive range of fresh food retailers, a small supermarket, as well as fashion, beauty and service providers.

It will also feature a mix of commercial uses including medical, legal and other professional service providers. It will include spaces for 280 cars, including 180 undercover spots and exposure to Via Roma, which is a major link road between the Gold Coast Highway and Bundall Road.

Developer Simon Harvey says the potential of the site is ‘enormous and its design and functionality is first rate’.

“Obviously there’s a long way to go, but to witness this initial transformation sets the tone for a remarkable journey and we are pleased to say that the first stage has been delivered on time, which is always a great achievement,” says the Sydney-based Harvey.

The Harvey family bought the site, which was developed in the 1960’s by Gold Coast icon Sir Bruce Small, in 2006 for about
$20 million.

The project is expected to create a new destination for a mix of commodity style shopping, experienced based shopping and social interaction and will revitalise the Isle of Capri neighbourhood.
The centre was designed by BDA Architecture.

“This elegant, modern and inviting shopping precinct will enrich the experience in a relaxed atmosphere overlooking the water,” says BDA Architecture design director Steve McCracken.

“Each building will offer maximum flexibility for retailers with innovative retail, cafe, and restaurant store designs. The central meeting point design feature is a covered piazza that will provide the ultimate shopping and alfresco dining experience.”

Leasing agent Finlay Walker of Knight Frank says the first stage attracted Australia Post, a pharmacy, newsagency, bottle shop and café within the retail mix. Office tenants include John Paul Langbroek MP, Woods Hatcher Solicitors, and Travelscene on Capri with strong interest shown from medical and financial service providers.

The project is set for completion in December 2012.
