AWARD ADDS TO ORIGO EDUCATION SUCCESS

BRISBANE-based learning system provider ORIGO Education has triumphed in the Education and Training category at the Premier of Queensland's Export Awards.

Presented by the Export Council of Australia in conjunction with Trade & Investment Queensland, the Awards highlight the state's exporting businesses and their contribution to the economy.

ORIGO Education CEO Tony Ivers says the win confirms the learning system provider's success over the last financial year.

"We're honoured to have received this award. The ORIGO Education team have worked tirelessly to make an outstanding and successful mathematics program," Ivers says.

ORIGO was founded in Brisbane in 1997 by James Burnett and Dr Calvin Irons. The company's suite of products has grown to include student participation materials and interactive digital learning products targeted predominantly at Australian and US teachers and students.

ORIGO's primary school mathematics program Stepping Stones is used in more than 100 school districts across the US, reaching half a million students.

More than 80 per cent of ORIGO's revenue is generated in the US, where the implementation of the Common Core State Standards across many of the 50 states is set to drive increased demand for educational materials.

Co-founder Burnett says the home-grown company was becoming a dominant player overseas.

"The fact that prominent school districts have selected ORIGO's products over other established education publishers has strengthened our reputation both in the US and internationally," he says.

Blue Sky Private Equity secured a multimillion-dollar stake in the company last month, to expand its offering and capitalise on the momentum in the US.
