BRISBANE 'GATSBY' HOTEL UNVEILS REVAMP

ONE of Brisbane's longest-standing hotels has been returned to its former glory.

Royal on the Park, formerly known as the Park Royal Motor Inn, was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Brisbane Clem Jones in 1969.

Since then, it has been home to some big names including Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Mick Jagger, ACDC, John Farnham and the Hoodoo Gurus.

The property has undergone a facelift with refurbished interiors, while preserving its classical charm.

Royal on the Park general manager Jan Schutt says past and present guest experiences were at the forefront of the renovation, with loyal patrons being asked for their input.

He says the consensus was to maintain the hotel's traditional and Great Gatsby-like features.

"The renovations enabled Royal on the Park to retain its key distinguishing factors - the wood panels, the formality of the arrival experience and the elegance of the lobby and the foyer; these are what makes us iconic and differentiate us in the Brisbane hospitality space," Schutt says.

"While retaining and enhancing the classic elegance and superior service of the hotel's 60s roots, the renovations have enhanced the modern needs of our 21st century guests and the full-service nature of the hotel."

Overlooking the City Botanic Gardens, Royal on the Park also features The Walnut Restaurant & Lounge, sundeck, hot tub, gym and croquet lawn.
