CARPENTERIA ONE STEP CLOSER TO LUCRATIVE BROKEN HILL MINE

CARPENTARIA Exploration Limited (ASX: CAP) is one step closer to establishing a $3.3 billion magnetite mine near Broken Hill.

The NSW government has declared the Hawsons Iron Project, 60 kilometres from the mining city, as a “State Significant Development” project following environmental assessments lodged by CAP in August.

The government has now detailed its requirements for the approval of an Environmental Impact Statement to be done within the next two years, as part of the transition from an exploration licence to a mining licence.

CAP chairman Nick Sheard says the move is a major milestone.

“Carpentaria is committed to securing the support of all stakeholders, including the local community and government, for the development of this important new mine,” says Sheard.

The company expects to secure the mining licence in 2014.
