Casino distributes $1 million in grants

FORTY community organisations throughout south-east Queensland have shared in $1,015,917.

Announcing the latest recipients of the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund, acting Premier and Treasurer Anna Bligh said the grants give the groups a boost and alleviate the burden of fund-raising. They allow the groups to buy equipment, upgrade buildings and facilities and launch and maintain community projects.

"Alcohol and Drug Foundation Queensland received $100,000 and will be able to extend their Logan rehabilitation centre," say Ms Bligh.

Under the terms of the funding scheme, organisations can apply for grants of up to $150,000, with successful recipients announced four times a year. Other recipients include Fresh Hope Association, Riding for the Disabled Association of Queensland, Rolleston Campdraft Association and the Rural Fire Brigade Gatton Springdale.

The Fund is generated from a community benefit levy paid from annual revenue by Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast and the Treasury Casino in Brisbane.

Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund chairperson Sarina Russo says more than $66 million has been provided for some 2600 community projects since 1987.
