Curwoods and McCabes to merge into a new entity called McCabe Curwood

McCabes Lawyers and Curwoods Lawyers have signed an agreement to merge by 1 July 2018.

The new entity will be known as McCabe Curwood and will bring together McCabe's corporate and commercial offering with Curwood's insurance practice to create a new platform.

Andrew Lacey, McCabes' current managing principal will be the managing partner of the new entity.

Scott Kennedy, the current managing partner of Curwoods, will be the head of insurance.

Lacey says the merger of the two law firms makes perfect sense.

"Our businesses are complementary," says Lacey.

"We are ambitious, and we want to build a strong, large-scale legal business with an expanded interstate presence.

Kennedy says the merger will allow the firm to dominate the insurance practice in Australia.

"By merging, the new entity will have one of the largest and most diverse insurance practices in Australia," says Kennedy.

"The combined entity will also provide a strong platform for continuing growth across the various commercial practice areas."

"We share the same goals of providing high quality services to our clients, supporting and developing our people, and streamlining systems and resources to be able to deliver on these goals."

Lacey says there is a similarity in both firms' cultures and values, making it easy for the two to come together.

"We found that McCabes' values were very much aligned with Curwoods' values," says Lacey.

"We both place an importance on quality and excellence and support and encourage staff."

"Each firm explored various options for growth, but the opportunities offered by a McCabes and Curwoods merger were by far the best foundation for us to build together a thriving business for the future."
