DIGITAL LADIES UNITE

DIGITAL LADIES UNITE
A NETWORKING group for women in digital is emerging in Brisbane, which will function as an exclusive platform for upper management and executive level women.

Following its success in the UK, 10 Digital Ladies will be launching in Australia this May, serving professional women working in digital capacities.

Brisbane is the homebase, and River City Labs' general manager Peta Ellis and Two Hoots' founder Jo Ucukalo will be leading the charge.

Ellis says the focus of the group will be less about education, and more about relationship building and knowledge sharing.

It will be launching with just 15 women, who have been handpicked by Ellis and Ucukalo.

These women could be working in fields as diverse as digital marketing, app development, social media, data and e-commerce all united under the digital banner.

"This is about women in any type of digital role, and we have recruited women in government, corporate and startups already, as well as people like myself who work closely with techies," says Ellis.

"The UK model is great but we are going to flesh out our own structure to suit Australian women, focusing less on content delivery and up skilling members, and more on encouraging knowledge sharing between everyone.

"There are a wealth of resources out there already and we know these people have knowledge to share, so this is more about bringing people together in a connection-based setting."

Ellis says there are plenty of 'women in business' groups in Australia, but most are as niche as focusing on either employees or entrepreneurs.

She says many women's meetups revolve around a guest speaker and light conversation between attendees before and after. 10 Digital Ladies wants to up the latter and focus on creating more meaningful connections.

"They are all top-tier women with high-level commission usually in management or above, and we have recognised with groups like this, action and problem-solving starts being centred on knowing the right people."
