Dive in movies for Bahrain

Audivisual company Blue Shadow Group is about to make a big splash in the Middle East with its outdoor cinema technology.

A team from the Arundel-based company will travel to Bahrain next month to set up the 8m x 5m movie screen at the spectacular Lost Paradise of Dilmun water theme park.

The $150,000 contract will result in ‘dive in’ movies to be presented on the beach in the Persian Gulf three nights a week.

A Blue Shadow technician will stay on the project for one month to ensure a smooth handover. The sound system component alone on the project is worth $50,000.

“We are building a bit of interest globally,” says director Daniel de Vries.

“The Bahrain contract is further evidence to us of the global possibilities of what we can do from the Gold Coast and a real vote of confidence in our company as a major audiovisual supplier and producer.”

Blue Shadow launched outdoor movies at McIntosh Island 15 years ago and since locked in contracts with theme park Dream World, the Brisbane International Film Festival and the beach cricket series.

“Our company has expanded into major event production and we’ve been involved in some of the largest corporate and public events to be staged on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane over the past decade or so,” says de Vries.

The company has achieved year-on-year growth of 30 per cent and is expected to turnover $2 million in the 2009-10 FY. The group has expanded with a business in Brisbane East and is preparing to franchise Australia-wide, offering further possibilities of international expansion.

Lost Paradise general manager Paul Blunt, says the cinematic experience will be a first for the Gulf.

“Our park is two years old and we’re very excited about the value-add the movies will deliver for our guests,” says Blunt.

“We pride ourselves on innovation and we are certainly looking to the movies continuing well into the future.”
