FEMALE SURF CHAMPION'S GETAWAY REVEALED

A SURF champion reveals she enjoys taking a break from the limelight at secluded Phillip Island.

Layne Beachley loves her fans but, every now and then, the seven-time world surf champion from Sydney needs to take a break from the public eye.

She says the Ramada Resort Phillip Island is one of her favourite retreats for its seclusion, comfortable facilities and natural beauty.

“Years ago, I used to have the paparazzi chase after me. Ramada has always respected my privacy and gone the extra mile to ensure I am comfortable,” says Beachley, who is also ambassador of Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific.

“They are very welcoming at Ramada and more than willing to go out of their way to ensure my stay is comfortable, relaxing and memorable.”

The resort is about a two-hour drive from Melbourne and a four-minute road trip from the Cowes CBD on scenic Phillip Island.

Ramada was built on 65 acres of picturesque countryside, which is close to bays, surf beaches, nature parks, Penguin Parade and the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit.

Beachley occasionally travels with her husband Kirk and has already made plans to revisit Ramada soon.

The 40-year-old is looking forward to surfing and enjoying the island’s rugged natural wonders.

“The waves at Phillip Island are wonderful, more consistent and usually rideable on any given day. Many areas are protected from the wind. I always have a good rubber wetsuit with me as the water temperature is usually 18 degrees,” she says.

“There are many penguins nearby and nature reserves that are suitable for bike riding, nature walks or bird-watching. As you move towards the beach, it can be quite rocky.”

Ramada has 211 self-contained villas with studio spa, two- and three-bedroom options. All accommodation is surrounded by native flora and fauna. Villas include a laundry, TV with Austar, DVD player, kitchen facilities and internet access.

There are also tennis courts, barbecue areas and conference rooms as well as a gym, spa, games room, restaurant, swimming pool and children’s playground.

Beachley likes dining at the resort’s Numbers Restaurant Café and Bar as well as a number of establishments in Cowes.

“I usually go to surf, eat and socialise. The resort and offers charming cafés and restaurants,” she says.

“Everywhere I go the locals are very warm and friendly; they love seeing new people.”
