GOLD COAST WORKERS BACK PAID $56,000 AFTER OMBUDSMAN INTERVENES

TWO workers who were fired from a Gold Coast business without being paid annual leave entitlements will receive $56,000 after intervention by the Fair Work Ombudsman.

The family business has made a repayment plan after working with the Ombudsman.

The two employees worked for the business for nine years, were let go without being paid for the accrued leave, or wages in lieu of notice.
The Fair Work Ombudsman has made three other recent recoveries on the Gold Coast:

  • $29,300 for two full-time employment consultants working for a Southport business who did not receive their termination entitlements and final wages,
  • $8600 for a male engineer at Ormeau who was underpaid his swing shift allowance, and
  • $6600 for a full-time automotive business manager in Southport who did not receive payment in lieu of notice of termination, annual leave and annual leave loading.
