INFRASTRUCTURE firm Global Road Technology (GRT) has more than $500 million worth of projects in the pipeline in 2015, with almost half of that under way in India.
Founded on the Gold Coast, the road construction and maintenance company is implementing projects from Brazil to Australia and most recently announced its India operation had finalised the largest purchase of cold recycling equipment ever seen in the country.
The equipment will be used to deliver on its $190 million roadworks program in Lucknow Mohana, India, which aims to assist in resolving the countries chronic infrastructure problems.
"As we fulfil the project in India, they add more and more work and for us it is very important to maintain the quality of our work so we had to buy that extra equipment to meet demand of that workload," says Herman Allison, GRT's chief financial officer.
"And there is also two more orders in the pipeline for more equipment. This puts us squarely at the forefront of the new generation of road building that will significantly improve road infrastructure in India and the lives of millions of people."
GRT's purchase from Wirtgen Germany includes three Wirtgen WR240 Road Stabilizers, three Streaumaster automated spreaders, three 20MT pad foot rollers and three 10MT pad foot rollers.
In addition, GRT will use its technology in Madhya Pradesh to help the state prepare for the world's largest religious gathering, Kumbh Mela, being held from April 2016.
Kumbh Mela is a mass pilgrimage in which Hindus gather to bathe in a sacred river. GRT is commencing work in the 2016 host city of Ujjain on the banks of the holy Shipra River.
As well as treating the roads leading from the highway to the festival site, GRT will be treating the festival's three million square metre site with its environmentally friendly dust suppression product.
More than two million people a day are expected to use the road and festival area with up to 30 million people expected to visit over the course of the 10-week festival.
In addition to its work in India, GRT is supplying specially designed products to the Indonesian military to create roads across Indonesia which includes the development of 1500km of road infrastructure across some of the country's most remote areas.
In South Africa, the company is using its range of soil-stabilisation and dust-control products to develop road networks across Brazil and will be working to assist the country as it addresses its infrastructure shortfalls leading up to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Allison attributes the growth of the company, which was founded three years ago, to an aggressive marketing strategy, supported by comprehensive product knowledge and honesty with customers.
"We only commit to a project once we are happy that we can fulfil the requirements of the customer," says Allison.
