THE FILM adaption of John Birmingham’s The Tasmanian Babes Fiasco will be shot in Brisbane, creating new jobs for the city.
The movie starts shooting in 2015 and will encourage economic growth in the local industry, according to The Lord Mayor Graham Quirk.
“Earlier this month, they started a crowd funding campaign to invite Brisbane people to be involved in the film and get the word out about it,” says Quirk.
“They represent everything we want to achieve with our Team Brisbane campaign, which is all about residents having a role to play in building our profile as an emerging global city.”
Producer Bec Dakin says locals who pledged more than $5 would get first in line as paid extras.
“The crowd funding initiative is a practical approach to filmmaking these days but it is also aimed at encouraging Brisbane locals to be involved in the process with us,” says Dakin.
“We want to build the film-going community and encourage them to see home-grown films and we believe this comedy feature film may be the film to do that.”
Wickam Park Productions has already landed actors such as Queensland’s Damien Power and comedian Josh Earl, along with Brisbane locals Hannah Levien and Samantha Roy.
