The best of the Gold Coast building industry has been showcased at the Master Builders Housing & Construction Awards. Master Builders director of construction John Crittall, says despite the credit freeze affecting the building industry, a record number of entries were received this year.
The Master Builders Housing and Construction Awards recognise builders and trade contractors who are at the forefront of building innovation and excellence in the construction industry in Queensland.
In 2009, we were very proud to report that despite the tough economic times and predictions that the number of entries may suffer, our members have cast aside the doom and gloom and submitted their high-class projects once again.
On the Gold Coast, we have maintained the number of entries – which is testament to the dedication and resilience of our members and the building industry as a whole. It also speaks volumes for the Master Builders Awards program and the value our members place on what is recognised as the premier event of the year.
Not only have entries across Queensland never been stronger, our regional awards ceremonies are boasting record attendance levels. These strong numbers ensure the glitz and glamour of these events is not lost, and are in stark contrast to many industries and organisations who are downsizing programs and events of this nature.
We received record entry numbers – telling us that despite the tough times, builders and contractors remain proud of their work. The calibre of entrants in this year’s awards was outstanding, with our judges treated to a fantastic collection of stunning projects, ensuring the job of picking winners in each category was a difficult one.
For commercial builders and contractors, the awards are a great way to get industry and peer recognition for outstanding workmanship, quality execution and exceptional planning and project management.
The awards evening is the culmination of a process that begins in February each year and requires time, effort and dedication from Master Builders members – who do the hard work in the 12 months leading up to the awards.
Once the entries are received, our judging panel then gives their time to view each entry and make the tough decision of choosing one winner for each category.

The Master Builders Housing and Construction Awards program is all about celebrating the great things about our industry.
From here, all Gold Coast winners are considered for the state finals, which are held in October at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. Gold Coast builders are at the forefront of commercial building in Queensland, with many regularly going on to win awards at a state level.
By bringing together quality construction, thrilled clients, successful businesses, both big and small and satisfied builders and contractors, our industry is clearly one of the principal drivers of economic prosperity in the region and is substantially responsible for reinvigorating the lifestyle and infrastructure of the Gold Coast.
