ONYX Property Group founders Chris Bolger and Adam Lacey may be on the fast track in business, but they are also proving to be pretty quick on two wheels.
A little over a month after their company was named in the BRW Fast 100 list, Team Onyx has taken out the annual Bravehearts Time Trial, which was held in Samford Valley last Sunday.
More than 70 cyclists, including pro reps from ORICA-GreenEDGE, joined forces to raise a combined $80,000 for Aussie kids and their families in a 43km replica pro cycling event.
The team from Onyx Property Group crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 1:01:35, only seconds behind the time from last year's winners no less than three-time Tour De France Green Jersey champion Robbie McEwan and Commonwealth Games Medallist Michael Hepburn.
Bolger says the Onyx team has been training in earnest for the past 12 months for the Hawaiian Half Iron man competition scheduled for May next year.
But the team came together a few years ago on a bit of a whim.
"We got the lycra bug to start with and ended up doing some laps in the pool," says Bolger.
"Before we knew it we put a team in the Noosa Triathlon."
Iron Man blood already pumps through the veins of Lacey, whose late father Peter is considered one of the greatest surf lifesaving competitors of all time and is immortalised with a statue on the Surfers Paradise foreshore.
Meanwhile, Bolger says the fitness bug doesn't necessarily give the Onyx team an edge in business.
"It's about enjoyment and something to work towards," he says. "If all goes well in Hawaii, well look to taking on the full Iron Man competition."
Bolger and Lacey were named finalists in this year's Gold Coast Business News Young Entrepreneur Awards.
Onyx had a bumper year in 2014, thanks to a run of sales from its key projects at Allisee on the Gold Coast and Lander Hill in northern Brisbane.
The company is poised to reveal new projects next year as the company takes advantage of the continued recovery in the south-east Queensland property market.
Onyx Property Group forecasts revenue to increase to $36.1 million this financial year 76 per cent up from the previous year.
