POSTGRADUATE SUCCESS

POSTGRADUATE SUCCESS

GRADUATE Careers Australia’s latest report shows 92.4 per cent of new postgraduates were in some form of employment, after completing their degrees.

The Postgraduate Destinations 2013 report gathers responses from university students across Australia, four months after graduation.

The majority of those surveyed were employed full-time at 82.7 per cent, with another 9.7 per cent working part-time while job-hunting.

The number of unemployed graduates is up from 6.3 per cent in 2012 to 7.5 per cent.

GCA executive director Dr Noel Edge says further education continues to play an important role in Australia, with more than a third of university students studying at a postgraduate level.

“Postgraduate study meets a variety of student needs, from updating old skills and re-skilling to adding vocational qualifications to a generalist degree in order to stand out from the increasing number of bachelor degree graduates in the Australian workforce,” Edge says.

The median reported salary for all postgraduates was $79,000.

Almost 139,000 graduates were surveyed, including more than 52,000 postgraduates.
