PROVIDING TLC FOR SICK KIDS IN HOSPITAL

BUSINESS News Australia has joined forces with national charity TLC for Kids to help the organisation launch its services on the Gold Coast, and care for local children in hospital.

TLC for Kids, an organisation that has raised more than $10 million for support services for sick kids in hospitals around Australia, will officially launch its Gold Coast affiliate in September.

The Gold Coast affiliate will introduce to the city the RAPID TLC Program an initiative whereby healthcare professionals can contact TLC for emotional and practical support for sick children in need.

TLC Gold Coast team leader Dale Mansfield says it can be anything from an iPad to accommodation for parents.

"We aim to make a child's stay in hospital better, and support in any way we can," she says.

"I love putting a smile on a sick child's face, you get so much out of it."

In addition, TLC produces and distributes distraction boxes a program that assists nurses and doctors to guide young children through painful examinations and procedures.

The box is placed in medical procedure rooms and contains items that divert a child's attention away from the procedure.

The launch of TLC for Kids Gold Coast will take place on Friday 11 September, with a breakfast event at Hotel Grand Chancellor.

Founder of the organisation Tim Conolan, who took out the 2014 Australian of the Year Local Hero award, will attend and speak at the launch.
