QANTAS AGAIN COMMENCES GOLD COAST-MELBOURNE FLIGHTS

QANTAS will once again offer flights between Melbourne and the Gold Coast with a daily service between the two cities.

The Melbourne service is expected to provide an additional 2352 seats on Melbourne-Gold Coast capacity per week.

In addition, the airline is providing additional capacity on the existing Gold Coast-Sydney service, increasing to four daily flights.

Gold Coast Airport chief operating officer David Collins says Qantas' announcement is a great win for the city.

He says the Gold Coast-Melbourne flight is the ninth busiest route in Australia, with up to 17 services per day operating.

"Qantas has been watching capacity on the Melbourne route since they recommenced services to the Gold Coast in 2012," says Collins.

"The Sydney service has been a strong performer for them and we had no doubt a direct Melbourne service would be added in time."
