SANCTUARY COVE BOAT SHOW TO MAKE WAVES

SANCTUARY COVE BOAT SHOW TO MAKE WAVES

THE countdown is on for the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, with less than three weeks to go until the premier marine event hits the shores of the Gold Coast.

Set to take place from May 21-24, the event will feature the latest boats, world product launches, innovative gear and gadgets, and an events program including cooking demonstrations from the MKR team, sailing presentations from Go Bareboating and fishing tips from Channel Seven's Paul Burt.

The event is expecting more than 300 exhibitors, in excess of 40,000 visitors over the four days and more than 500 boats on display.

Last year it was estimated the show injected more than $148 million into the local economy, with that number expected to increase in 2015.

"We are expecting to up that figure a little bit this year because we sense there is greater consumer confidence out there and we have heard from a lot of dealers and manufacturers that they are doing a lot better this year," says Johan Hasser (picutred), general manager of the boat show.

"Everything is on the up and we are no different to the rest of the economy, if real estate is doing well, boats usually follow."

The event will feature everything from superyachts, powerboats and catamaran sailboats to jet skis, tinnies and trailer boats.

The most expensive vessel up for grabs is a $5 million Horizon E88 superyacht which boasts five bedrooms all with ensuites, and separate crew quarters.

"This year we actually have further additions which are really cool and will take the event to a whole new level," says Hasser.

"We actually have a plane on water, which is a first for us, and we also have helicopters on display together with some luxury sports cars.

"It is everything that goes with that marine lifestyle that we love on the Gold Coast."

The boat show first sailed into the Gold Coast 27 years ago.
