QUEENSLAND Airports Limited (QAL) owned assets Gold Coast, Townsville and Mount Isa have recorded a 9.7 per cent increase in passenger movements in the2009/10 FY.

With almost 7 million passengers over the three airports, the figures indicate year on year growth.

Gold Coast led the charge with a 12 per cent increase while Mount Isa and Townsville recorded growth of 1.2 per cent and 3.8 per cent respectively.

With international numbers tipping 755,000, the Gold Coast Airport cemented its position as the fifth busiest international airport in Australia. Growth in international passenger movements was 47.8 per cent.

Managing director of QAL Dennis Chant, says the results are promising in a difficult period.

“It is pleasing to record growth in passenger movements across the group during what has been the most challenging year since 2001,” says Chant.

“Our three airports have received strong support from our airline partners with all three experiencing significant increases in airline seat capacity and new route development.”
