WESTERN SUBURBS GEAR UP FOR NEW CBD

SOUTH east Queensland's growth has conceded a new city west of Ormeau, where a 30,000-person masterplanned community and business district hosting 10,000 workers will form its centre over the next 30 years.

Infrastructure is set for a much-needed economic and logistic boost, as work commences on a bridge connecting Flagstone Central to other regions.

The temporary bridge will open mid-year and connect commuters to Flagstone Central, the community's new business district, before a permanent is erected later in the year.

It will also enable the public to view the upcoming mass residential and commercial development that will make up the future Flagstone.

The community represents a 30-year joint venture commitment by residential land specialists Peet Limited and superannuation funds manager MTAA Super, which in March were approved for an initial 700 homesites and the first Flagstone commercial lots.

City of Logan mayor Pam Parker (pictured) says the bridge is a symbol for new opportunity for a region where 300,000 residents are expected to increase to 500,000 by 2031.

In the near term, Logan has projected growth of 76,400 in 2011 to 2021, which is double its recorded growth in 1996 to 2006.

"The new interim bridge is a symbol of the opportunities Flagstone will open up for Logan's economy," says Parker.

"We are working hard to build a strong future for our residents, our families and particularly our young people, and Flagstone will play a crucial role in that.

"As the biggest development in the area, Flagstone will be an important drawcard attracting thousands of new jobs, homes, businesses and services to match our population growth."
