One of Australia's leading gym chains Jetts Fitness is building on its existing global footprint of 250-plus clubs with an expansion into the Indian market, where it plans to launch multiple locations across key cities in a market forecast to reach US$6.6 billion in the coming years.
Founded on the Gold Coast in 2007 and now based on the Sunshine Coast, Jetts already has a strong presence in New Zealand, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, with the Indian expansion forming part of an "aggressive" five-year plan targeting key markets across the Americas, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
The company was attracted to the Indian market as it undergoes "rapid transformation" with a growing ecosystem of health-conscious consumers, service and equipment providers, complementary industries, and government initiatives that promote health.
The Australian company will introduce its offering with no lock-in contracts, flexible access, and value-for-money membership options, providing "state-of-the-art equipment, full-service, larger concept clubs, expert coaching, and a vibrant fitness community".
"India represents a tremendous opportunity for us," says Jetts Fitness managing director and chief executive officer Elaine Jobson, who in 2022 led a management buyout for 129 franchised Jetts clubs in Australia and the international franchise business for the UK and the Netherlands.
"With increasing awareness of health and fitness, our model of convenience and accessibility aligns perfectly with the lifestyle of today’s consumers."
The expansion will be spearheaded by Jetts India master franchisees Nishant Singh, Ashish Malik, and Rahul Raghuvanshi, who the group describes as "seasoned industry leaders with extensive experience in fitness, franchising, and business operations".
"Our goal is to create a welcoming environment where members can train on their terms, whether they are new to fitness or seasoned athletes," says Jobson.
"We are excited to bring Jetts to India and build a strong community of health-conscious individuals.
"Our master franchisee team in India have ambitious plans for expansion through franchising and are committed to making high-quality fitness more accessible, as well as becoming India’s most loved training gym."
Now in operation for almost 18 years, Jetts was originally founded by husband-and-wife duo Brendon and Cristy Levenson, who sold the business to Quadrant Private Equity in 2016. Six years later, a strategic review led to the buyout of portions of the business by management.
Quadrant-owned Fitness & Lifestyle Group, which also owns Goodlife Health Clubs, Fitness First Australia and Emily Skye Fit, retains ownership of 104 Jetts fitness clubs in New Zealand, Vietnam and Thailand.
