Plann, a Sydney-based social media scheduling tool that is used by more than three million brands globally, has been acquired by fellow Australian in-bio link provider Linktree for an undislosed sum.
Linktree co-founder and CEO Alex Zaccaria said in a LinkedIn post today that he was very excited to be announcing the acquisition.
"Outside of Canva and Leonardo.Ai (which i am also very stoked about!), Aussies partnering with Aussies is rare and I'm super proud to be a part of the Australian tech ecosystem," said Zaccaria, one of Australia's Top 100 Young Entrepreneurs.
The deal follows Melbourne-headquartered Linktree's acquisitions of two California-based businesses last year, Bento and Koji.
Plann was founded by former advertising executive Christy Laurence in mid-2016, and now has staff in 10 countries and customers spread across more than 160 countries.
"Today, I’m beyond excited to share — Plann has been acquired by Linktree, an Australian-born global leader I’ve long admired," Laurence, Plann's CEO, said on LinkedIn.
"I met Alex Zaccaria in the very early days of Linktree and loved his identical passion for our space, endless ideas for bootstrapping, and bonded over world-class product experiences as we built our businesses.
She said it was an easy decision to call Linktree her "new home".
"With Linktree’s global reach, scale, and innovative technology, combined with our team’s expertise in social media scheduling, I cannot wait to continue helping those running online businesses of every kind succeed in ways we could only dream of before," she said.
"After 8 years (almost to the day - that's 100 in startup years!) I'm thrilled for a new adventure.
"To our community and customers - thank you for all of your support, feedback and the same passion you've had for your own businesses that we love being a part of - because the best part of our story, is you."
The Plann founder also expressed her gratitude to her team, past and present.
"The late nights, the long hours, and the incredible problem-solving we’ve done together over the years," she said.
"May this be the sweetest validation of what we've always known, that what you do has always been worthy of the world stage."
On its website, Plann described the acquisition as a "proud milestone" that moves the company closer to realising a dream of scaling its social media tools to reach more brands, businesses, and aspiring entrepreneurs looking to build successful online ventures.
"For the time being, nothing will change — you can continue using Plann just as you always have. With even more powerful brains working together I know enhancements will be in our future and we’ll keep you updated as soon as things progress," the company said.
