Crown Sydney finally set to open doors to VIP punters in August

Crown Resorts will finally open the doors to its Sydney casino for VIP punters from next month following conditional approvals granted by the NSW gaming watchdog  in June.

Crown has announced Australia’s only VIP casino will service gamblers across its two gaming floors known as the Crystal Room and the Mahogany Room, in addition to 12 exclusive private Sky Salons from 8 August 2022 – a date identified by the casino as a symbolic lucky number.

“The opening of our gaming operations at Crown Sydney is a defining moment for Crown, and the culmination of months of hard work from our dedicated team,” says Crown Sydney CEO Simon McGrath.

“The entire team at Crown Sydney has been preparing for this moment for a long time and we felt the symbolism of the 08.08 date represented ideal timing to open our doors. We look forward to showcasing our exclusive and unique gaming experience to our VIP members and their guests from next month.”

In June, the NSW Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority (ILGA) granted Crown Sydney’s casino operations a temporary green light to permit gaming at the Barangaroo tower while the regulator conducts the final phase of licence suitability assessment.

The move will bring to life the Darling Harbour property which has been sitting idle since construction was completed in 2020.

The conditional approval is the final stage of Crown’s return to ILGA’s good books, following the 2021 Bergin Inquiry which found Crown unsuitable to hold a casino licence in Sydney.

Since then, the company underwent a major restructure in terms of board and executive leadership, and entered into an $8.9 billion merger with US investment firm Blackstone.

McGrath says Crown is committed to delivering ‘a safe and responsible gaming environment for all’.

“Crown Sydney’s restricted gaming facility has been designed with the highest levels of governance and compliance,” he says.

“It is the only casino of its kind in Australia, with all patrons required to be a member or guest of a member and undergo comprehensive checks.

“The gaming floors at Crown Sydney set a new standard in luxury and elegance – from the design of the room to the overall member experience. The salon floors are flooded with natural light to highlight our unparalleled waterfront views, while the finishes and furnishings are of the highest quality and standard.”
