Dental Boutique kicks off national expansion with gleaming new Adelaide clinic

The 2021 Melbourne Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award winners Dr Reuben Sim and Dr May Chan are looking to take their unique approach to cosmetic dentistry national, beginning with a new clinic in Adelaide.

Set to open in the leafy streets of North Adelaide next week, Dental Boutique’s Adelaide practice will be the entrepreneurial pair’s second clinic and the first in the company’s push to have a national presence.

Further clinics are set to open in Sydney, Geelong and Mornington in the coming weeks, with the founders taking their passion for patient care and top-notch results around Australia.

According to co-founder Dr Sim, the opening of the practice in Adelaide is the result of serious demand for the services offered by Dental Boutique, established in 2013.

“The opening of our Adelaide clinic will allow us to employ an additional 30 to 40 staff, including dentists, dental specialists, nurses, receptionists, and an office team of managers and marketing professionals,” Dr Sim said.

“We had a lot of clients travelling from Adelaide to Melbourne for their procedures, so we knew there was a strong demand in that market.

“We also put a poll on our Instagram stories, asking our followers where they’d like us to open, and Adelaide certainly stood out as a popular destination.”

Like the Melbourne clinic, Dental Boutique’s Adelaide practice will offer specialised cosmetic dentistry services - think veneers, Invisalign and teeth replacement solutions with implants - and will feature 10 surgery rooms allowing between 70 and 100 people to be seen daily.

Plans for the Adelaide practice came after rapid growth of the company’s Melbourne practice, scaling from a single chair in 2013 to its current capacity of 35 treatment chairs, and the high proportion of interstate patients they treated (roughly 20-30 per cent pre-COVID).

“Since announcing plans of our Adelaide clinic we’ve developed a waitlist of clients ready to be serviced there,” Dr Sim said.

“With the range of services we provide, clients don’t need to travel to multiple clinics to get different opinions and procedures - our tailored treatments are all offered in-house under the one roof.

“We put our clients first in all that we do, and opening in Adelaide will allow us to bring our service to them, transforming more smiles more quickly.”

For the founders of Dental Boutique, this latest move marks a new chapter in a business journey which led them to taking out the coveted title of Melbourne Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2021.

Since 2013, the pair have been servicing Melbourne’s smiles including celebrities like Bachelor stars Sam and Snezana Wood, model Rozalia Russian, Married at First Sight contestant Martha Kalifatidis, and Netflix’s Yummy Mummies star Jane Scandizzo.

In the past three years, Dental Boutique has performed 25,000 veneers, 1,500 Invisalign cases and 500 full-jaw replacement procedures - a number that will continue to expand with the opening of the new clinics.

Their well-received work and desire to go over and above when it comes to client comfort and a pain-free experience has given Chan and Sim a shining reputation in the Victorian capital - one they’re hoping will be replicated interstate.

The expansion follows two years of uncertainty, with the Melbourne clinic impacted by COVID-19 restrictions that saw them have to close to clients except for emergency procedures.

“We tried to improvise around what we can do and see during the lockdown period,” Dr Chan told Business News Australia.

“That included a lot of virtual consultations, and creating systems for post-lockdown.

“During lockdown we renovated extra rooms to accommodate for more demand that we expected once it lifted.”

In addition to renovating their clinics, the two also brought on extra pairs of hands to accommodate the post-lockdown boom of clients desperate to have their teeth looking fresh for the inevitable surge of celebratory get-togethers - doubling the size of their team in the process.

“Instead of most businesses cutting back on staff and team members, and trying to cut costs in those areas, we’ve actually employed more people along the way to help with growth,” Sim said.
